Powerboat Bareboat Skipper Course
IYT International Bareboat Skipper (Power)
International Bareboat Skipper (Power) This is a five day course which is not for beginners and the recommended requirements are a VHF radio operators certificate, and to have logged over 200 nautical miles and 10 days at sea before being certified at this level.
The recommended minimum age to obtain this certification is 18. Obtaining this certificate through an IYT partner school who has been approved by IYT to offer the “International Certificate of Competency” to their candidates automatically qualifies for an ICC which is required to charter a vessel in most European countries.

Certificate recommendations
- Command of a vessel up to a maximum length of 78 ft /24 metres
- In coastal waters up to 20 miles offshore
- In daylight hours and in fair conditions with moderate wind and sea conditions
This certificate is the level of competence that one needs when chartering a boat in the Mediterranean or West Indies where there are restrictions in terms of cruising area and distance from the base and the vessel has to be safely moored in a marina or anchored before dark

Day 2
- Close quarters maneuvering and docking, picking up a mooring,

- Steering a compass course, Electronic navigation, MOB drill under power, Berthing
Day 3
- Ready boat
- Depart OMYC for Local Island Colregs, compass fixes, introduction to charts,
- Lunch on board
- Anchoring – knots, dinghy use
- Dinner On Board
- Introduction to handling a powerboat at night
Day 4
- Breakfast on board
- Ready boat
- Colregs, compass fixes, charts, bouyage, colregs
- Lunch on board
- High speed maneuvering, anchoring – knots, dinghy use
- Dinner on shore
Day 5
- Breakfast on board
- Ready boat
- Power maneuvers
- Return to Ocean Marina/final exam
