Zero to Hero Sailing Course

Zero to Hero – Fast-track to Bareboat Skipper

Our eleven day Zero to Hero Sailing Course reduces the cost of learning to sail from the combined individual course cost of 70,000 to 55,000 THB by combining the Competent Crew course and Bareboat Skipper course into one fun, fast paced action packed program.

**For those Students that do not already hold a current Radio Operators Certificate we offer the option to obtain, at a reduced price of 6,000THB, the Compulsory VHF/SRC Radio Operators License during the 11 day course.

After successful completion of the course you will be qualified to charter and skipper sailing vessels up to 24m 20 nautical miles from the shore.

Course Details

Day 1

  • Introduction to staff, Overview of Course outline & admin requirements. Nautical Terminology Parts of a boat, directions (Port, Starboard etc.), Points of sail.
  • Lunch
  • Safety briefing, Preparing the boat, Engine checks, do’s and don’ts on board boat Pleasure sail: demonstrate points of sail, tacking & gybing
  • SunSet Drinks and Delicious Local Snacks by the beach; an easygoing atmosphere  to provide an opportunity to get to know each other, to chat (some would call it debate) about boats, the Ocean and all things Sailing. Food, beverage and transport to the venue is provided by Island Spirit Thailand. Don’t worry, this is not a late evening, we need you bright and sparkly and ready for action the the next day!

Day 2

  • Rope work, deck gear, sail handling, tacking & gybing, intro to colregs
  • Lunch on board
  • MOB, tacking and gybing, colregs, navigation instruments, maneuvering under power, effects of prop walk and prop wash
  • Crew’s role when berthing and leaving the berth

Day 3

  • Close quarters maneuvering and docking, picking up a mooring,
  • Lunch on board
  • Steering a compass course, tacking & gybing, reefing for heavy weather, Berthing

Day 4

  • Ready boat
  • Depart OMYC for Sattahip, Koh Rin, Koh Pai &/or Koh Si-Chang
  • Colregs, compass fixes, introduction to charts, tacking & gybing
  • Lunch on board
  • Sailing drills, anchoring, knots, dinghy use
  • Dinner On Shore

Day 5

  • Breakfast on board
  • Sailing drills students alternating roles, verbal revision for exam
  • Lunch on board
  • Crew Exam onboard

Day 6 Classroom

  • Responsibilities of the Skipper and Watch keeper, Meteorology, Chartwork
  • Lunch
  • Passage planning, Colregs

Day 7

  • Close quarters maneuvering and docking, picking up a mooring,
  • Lunch on board
  • Steering a compass course, tacking & gybing, reefing for heavy weather, Berthing

Day 8

  • Ready boat
  • Depart OMYC for Local Island Colregs, compass fixes, introduction to charts, tacking & gybing
  • Lunch on board
  • Sail drills, anchoring – knots, dinghy use
  • Dinner On Board
  • Introduction to Night sailing

Day 9

  • Breakfast on board
  • Ready boat
  • Colregs, compass fixes, charts, bouyage, colregs, tacking & gybing
